The Tsaatan, also known as the Dukha or Reindeer People, are a small, nomadic ethnic group of reindeer herders in Mongolia. They inhabit the taiga of the Khuvsgul Lake Basin, near Mongolia's northernmost regions, including Sharyn Mountain Pass and the Shishged River. The Tsaatan migrate seasonally, moving across reindeer pastures throughout the year. They are a Mongolized Uriankhai ethnic group, believed by historians to have migrated from Tuva before settling in the Khuvsgul taiga. As a distinct national minority, they have their own language, customs, religion, and way of life. The Tsaatan speak a dialect related to Tuvan and practice shamanism, deeply connected to their natural surroundings. Their livelihood revolves around reindeer herding, relying on reindeer-derived resources such as meat, milk, hides, and antlers. They endure extreme winters, with temperatures ranging from -31°C to -50°C, showcasing their resilience in one of the harshest climates on Earth. Duration of the trip: 12 nights - 13 days -People weighing less than 80 kg can ride reindeer, people weighing more than 80 kg will ride horses. -On request of the group of tourists, we can arrange watching or even participating in reindeer’s family moving from one pasture together with their herds.
